House Facilities

The house is located in a residential neighborhood on the uphill side of the street. There are neighboring houses on either side of the guest house, but behind the guest house is a large area of forest with no other houses nearby. If you hike up the hill through the forest behind the house you will shortly reach a fire road and a lovely vista of Lake Tahoe. If you continue along the fire road as it curves down and west and then curves up, you will encounter a creek. You can continue hiking into the mountains along this creek without encountering other houses, even as far as the Tahoe Rim Trail or even beyond to Mt. Rose (10,776 feet high). Please note that this would be a very ambitious hike!

The guest house is on a side street (Tyner Way) off Mt. Rose Highway (SR 431). Road noise from SR 431 is usually not discernable from the house. Street noise from Tyner is also rarely an issue since Tyner is not a main thoroughfare. The neighborhood is generally quiet.

We have spotted bears in the back yard on three separate occasions--be sure to keep all trash in the garage so as not to lure any garbage hungry bears to the house. A number of stags and deer have also wandered by. Most nights with full moons, groups of coyotes gather and yip just up the back hill. If you keep your window closed and sleep soundly, you might not hear them--so keep your window open if it is warm enough outside! This yipping drives pets nuts, as you might imagine, so be careful not to let your pets off leash if you think they might run off. It's always a good idea to keep small animals leashed around here, particularly during nighttime. If you think your dog might run off after a coyote, then exercise extreme caution even if your dog is reasonably large. Coyotes have been known to lure even good sized dogs not wise in the ways of the forest to their deaths. This is not generally a big problem during daytime, but we have spotted plenty of coyotes even in midday so be wary.

A two and a half-person canoe/kayak and a one-person kayak may be available for your use at a small additional charge if you reserve them in advance. Please inquire if you think you might want to use them.
